Seed-to-Home Sustainable Hemp Products
Big Sky Hemp provides Seed-to-Home sustainable plant-based building materials including flooring and insulation to customers who want a more eco-friendly, higher-performing Montana produced product.

GROWING
Big Sky Hemp is focused on growing consistent industrial hemp materials as close to the processing facility as possible.
Our certified seeds are planted each April. In three short months our hemp is ready to be harvested for industrial fiber purposes.
The crop is cut down and allowed to dry and cure, or "rett" in the field. It is then put in to a bale and transported from field to a local processor.
PROCESSING
Dry bales are chopped and hemp is separated, a process know as decortication, resulting in three products: outer bast fiber, inner woody hurd, and dust.
Hurd is then packaged on site in super sacks and compressed bales. Bast Fiber and dust are go on to use in other innovative products.
INSTALLING
Onsite installs of hempcrete using the EREASY cast in place system are performed by a team of four. We mix and spray hemp and binder onto existing wall structures or exteriors to create a uniform layer of high thermal mass insulation. The Hemp lime is allowed to dry for a day and then evened out, or "screeded," flat.
Big Sky Hemp can also provide a silica paint finish for leaving walls exposed for a unique appearance. A variety of materials can be used to finish the surface of installed hempcrete. Can go all natural with plasters and eliminate sheeting (interior or exterior) or use traditional materials like siding and sheeting while our biocomposite provides a long-lasting eco-friendly insulation solution.
